Life at Trinity is given order through three words: Worship, Connect, and Serve. God has gifted each of us differently and equipped us with different passions and preferences. With the choices at Trinity we ask that you seek to Worship with the church, Connect with a small group, and Serve in a way God has gifted you once a week. To help make that simpler we place the things we do under the word that best fits that group or activity. Start by choosing one thing from each area.
 
 

Pizza, Parents & Snowballs

Last summer, Trinity held its Pizza, Parents & Snowballs party.  Our family attended the event, mainly so that our 4 boys could have a snowball fight in the middle of summer.  The party was a blast!  Trinity prepared Christmas crafts for all to do, from ornament making, snowman building, and other fun Christmas crafts.  After crafts was the snowball fight, that was done with soft fluffy snowballs.  Then we finished off the event with Kona Ice snow cones.  The boys all enjoyed it, as well as all who attended.
 
This year, Trinity is planning to host the same event on July 13th at 5:30pm.  They are going to have pizza, crafts, and games just like last year.  Bring your whole family for a fun Christmas in July party.

Friendship Class

The Friendship Bible Class is true to its name – friends studying God’s Word together. Each Sunday we further unpack the sermon from the week before, and since we attend different service times, it is interesting to hear the various message interpretations.
 
Our class is faithfully led by two teachers that alternate months. Frank Brooksher and Bob Davis lead a discussion-style class with questions and input from all class members in a very informal setting throughout the hour. They have each done a more in-depth study of the message during the week, which brings out so many more interesting and thought-provoking ideas.
 
Class members of all ages, varying backgrounds, and church experience keep it interesting!  Getting deeper into the past week’s sermon gives each of us a better understanding of the Word, and more importantly, how to apply it to our own lives.
 
We have a time of sharing and praying together led by Melinda Cox, our Class Director, at the close of each class. The praises and prayer concerns are shared by email during the week to each class member.
 
We have been very involved in the Adopt-A-Grad Program for the past three years.  It has been a blessing to send gifts, treats and notes of encouragement to these recent high school graduates during their first year of college.  So far, we have adopted a total of 5 students.

4th of July Inspiration

July 4th has always been a special day of remembrance and celebration for me since I was a little boy.  My dad would take me to town to watch the 4th of July parade.  Subsequently, I have loved those parades, especially once I understood the meaning of July 4th by reading the Declaration of Independence.
 
To me, it is powerful and inspiring that the writers of this document were impressed by God to declare the principles for which our nation was founded, namely freedom and equality, are worth fighting for if challenged.  The preamble states: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”
 

         Scripture declares Jesus’ responsibility for these rights:

        Life…”I have come that you may have life…” John 10:10

Liberty (Free)…”…you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”  John 8:32

Happiness (Joy)…”I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”  John 15:32
 
In 1976 I was stationed at Chanute AFB, Rantoul, Illinois.  I was a Colonel and a Technical Training Group Commander with nearly 1000 students and instructors to oversee.  1976 was the 4th of July bi-centennial celebration and Chanute had planned many activities including a parade with nearly 600 military personnel participating.  The Base community was encouraged to attend, as well as special invitations extended to the Rantoul community.  I was honored to have been chosen as the Parade Commander.
 
As I led the parade, with the flag bearers directly behind me carrying the American flag, my mind recalled those all-important words of the Pledge of Allegiance which says “…one nation, under God…”
 
I love our nation and I love a parade!

Dominican Republic Mission Trip Testimonies

Ryia Neuman – If I am being perfectly honest, I was not all that excited about leaving Kerrville for the week. I was worried I was going to miss out on things happening here. It was also my first time traveling out of the country since I was 5 years old, so I was pretty nervous. We got there and my attitude towards it wasn’t great, but throughout the week God truly changed my heart. I got to work alongside Dominicans and they are such sweet and loving people. The Dominicans have hospitality like I’ve never seen before; the way they give everything when they have basically nothing is so inspiring to me. One of my favorite nights was when we ate in some of the church member’s homes and sat around the table and shared our testimonies, it was such a surreal experience and it warmed my heart. I also got the chance to work with some kids a couple of days during VBS and, even though I don’t know a lot of Spanish, I used what I did know. God truly showed me that I wasn’t there for me; I was there for them, and after I realized that it was a great life lesson and opportunity.
 
Rick Boles – Blessed beyond measure to go again and see what God has done and is doing through STCH and IBQ since 2006 for schools, Orphan Homes, and assistance with families for housing.
 
Aidan Hawkins – I had never been on an airplane and so that was a very new experience for me. It was so much fun seeing a different culture and meeting so many new friends. My two favorite people there were Angelica and Caroline. I’m hoping we are going to go next year. When we were at the orphanage, I helped cut the carrots for lunch and a bunny hopped into the house. I also helped paint a Jonah and the whale mural, and the basketball court. It was so much fun.
 
Isabella Hawkins – During my experience on the DR Trip, I was very busy. I helped with our VBS games at La Ceiba and it was fun. We played freeze tag and had a rock-paper-scissors relay race. The last day we just ran around and played. It was exciting to experience a different style of how people do things. I met a lot of amazing people in the DR. I hope I can go back and see them again next year.
 
Cortney Hawkins – Some of my most memorable moments of the DR trip include, even before we left, knowing many people were praying for us throughout this trip and all the preparations in coming! I really enjoyed getting to do regular devotions with the girls again; something that had waned over the holidays. Between VBS, med clinic and the orphanage, I was blessed to have special interactions at each place. My favorite was Wednesday evening, when after some worship, the whole congregation naturally went into small pairs or groups to pray before Bible study. I was able to pray with Cynthia, who knew very little English. And, with my very little Spanish, although conversations were stunted and brief, heartfelt prayers were lifted. After all – God knows English too.

The Anderson Family on Mission

The Andersons will be on furlough soon. They are going to Germany first to visit family and supporters from 6/28-7/13. Then they continue on to Chicago and from there will be in Texas on 7/29. They hope to visit with Trinity while they are stateside! 
 
In April, their first-grade teacher at the Amano school was medically evacuated to Germany and this has caused an administrative domino effect with school duties.  Their plates were already very full, and both Aaron and Andrea have taken on additional administrative duties due to the staff shortage. If you know of a retired educator who loves the Lord and is interested in serving in missions (short term and/ or long term), please share this urgent need with them.
 
  1. Their most urgent need is for Missionary teachers, dorm parents, a principal, and a kitchen manager. 
  2. Classrooms: Their classes have outgrown the small container classrooms and they need to be replaced with brick. We pray for the Lord to provide the finances to build these classrooms. The container classrooms will be moved to start up the vocational center that will be partnered with Amano. To build the classrooms it would cost $55,000 for a block of 4 classrooms.
  3. They are still in need of a booster car seat when they are in the US and a high chair to borrow (The booster in Illinois as they arrive there and a high chair to borrow both in Illinois and preferably one in the Kerrville area).
  4. Prayers for their family’s protection (physical and spiritual), strength and wisdom.
  5. Prayers for strength, patience, love and wisdom in balancing their time between mentoring, teaching the students, raising their girls, and managing Amano.

For the Journey – June 2023

It was so good to be with our Church family on Sunday. Our journey to Israel was amazing but it is good to be home. There is so much to share from our trip and over time we hope to pass along our insights and blessings. Many of you have traveled to Israel yourselves and know how life informing and even changing it can be.
 
I cannot express enough how thankful I am for our ministerial staff. I am fully confident that when I am away that Trinity will not miss a step as a result of our team of ministers. Thank you, JD and Wes, for filling the pulpit and the rest of our staff, Clint, Kellee, Sharron, Frank and Charlie, for helping to pastor our incredible fellowship. Keep the Barganiers in your prayers as they prepare to sell a house and start the search in Kerrville for a place to live.
 
We start the summer on the go. Our Dominican Republic Mission team leaves this week and Vacation Bible School will be here before we know it. This summer will be full of ministry opportunities. One of the blessings of our trip was sharing with other pilgrims on our journey about our wonderful faith family in Kerrville. I am excited for what God has placed before us as we travel together.
 
This summer there will be a gathering of Texas Baptist in McAllen for our annual convention. Every five years we hold it in the summer and invite all our Texas Baptist Affinities to join us. We will travel to McAllen on July 16th and return on the 18th. We are allowed 25 messengers who will vote on the business and future direction of Texas Baptists. If you would like to go, call the church office and we will add your name to the list and officially vote on you as a messenger to represent Trinity Baptist Church. Sue Owens will then get you information regarding lodging. If you can go, it is a worthy event to see just how big our Texas Baptist family is and all that we do together.
 
It is easy to think about walking through time as we have in the past. Sometimes we put our travel on auto-pilot and in doing so, we miss many life-affirming moments. On the day that Melinda and I visited the southern steps into Jerusalem, we could see different formation of steps. The steps closer to the walls of Jerusalem were more uniform and were much newer than the others. The older steps were not uniform, nor were they even the same height. It would be impossible to walk up those steps habitually without considering your steps. To navigate successfully, one would need to look down at least every so often.
 
Let’s not move through this summer in a habitual way without considering what is before us. Remember where we are going, toward the LORD. Remember, He has next steps for us. Be sure to look to the left and the right to see others traveling with us. As we arrive at the same places, God has much to both tell us and remind us. I am excited for our journey together. I am looking forward to others we will encourage and meet along the way. God is doing a great thing among His people. Let’s celebrate it together.

Stitchers for Jesus – June 2023

The stitching ladies are a very special group.  I can’t call them sewers anymore because in 2022 we added a new division to our group, the knitters and crocheters and now they are called “Stitchers & More”.  Besides making dresses, shorts sets, walker tote bags and quilted blankets, we now are making afghans and newborn baby hats (for a baby hospital in Guatemala). We have monthly meetings in which we bring in the items that have been handmade and sometimes our tables look like a children’s specialty store!  It is amazing to see how the Lord has blessed us with talented people who use their time and effort to serve Him by loving and caring about children in need around the world. We all love to work with our hands and we love fabrics and yarns. Isn’t it just like God to give us a love for these things and a ministry to serve Him and meet some dire and very basic needs? 
 
In addition to the clothing, we also make the shoe bags that are used for First Blessing every year. It is already time to start getting fabric sorted and cut so the ladies can work on this year’s bags.  Also, one of our ladies is currently cutting out head dresses for the children to wear in VBS this year. They will be Israelites in several different tribes. How very exciting!
 
Here is what we were able to send out in 2022:  653 dresses, 54 shorts sets, 69 quilted flannel blankets, 119 afghans, 72 baby hats and 82 walker tote bags.  We are hoping to do that much or more by the end of this year, Lord willing. In August, we will have an old-fashioned sewing bee and will also work on some special projects.
 
There are people that greatly bless and help us keep our ministry going.  We receive monetary donations and donations of fabrics, yarn and sewing notions.  We could not accomplish as much without this help and we are thankful to each and every one. September is our 8-year anniversary and 2 ladies are still members that have been since the beginning: Sue Stewart and Rita McFaddin.

Come and See Class

In the first chapter of John’s gospel, Philip told Nathanael he had found the Messiah. To Nathanael’s skeptical reply, Philip said, “Come and see.”
 
It is in that same spirit that we extend an invitation for you to come and seek Jesus with us on Sunday mornings at 9:45 in Room 212. We are a new, co-ed class that welcomes all ages, and especially those new to Kerrville or Trinity Baptist.
 
We use the Explore the Bible curriculum from Lifeway and look at scripture through its ancient cultural context to not only understand how scripture was applied when it was written, but how it applies in everyday life. The words spoken by Christ still resonate today to seekers and His followers who are hungry to learn more about Him.
 
Teacher Jay Stimson and his wife Kandi moved to Kerrville from Castle Rock, Colorado in 2021, where they had been involved in SBC church planting. After settling in Kerrville, they found themselves at home in the fellowship at Trinity Baptist Church with like-minded Christ followers.
 
Trinity Baptist has many wonderful teachers and Bible Study classes from which to choose. We encourage you to find a class where you can pray for one another, grow in your faith, enjoy fellowship with other believers, and find the Messiah through the study of God’s Word. If you are wondering if this class is right for you, “Come and See!”

Children’s Ministry News – June 2023

We are coming up on a fun, busy, and great summer. We start off with Vacation Bible School June 12 – 15th from 9am-noon. Come join us for an adventure in Babylon and explore Daniel’s courage and captivity. Sign up at www.tbck.org and also email Kellee at kparish@tbck.org to help minister to kids.
 
Pre-Teen Camp is at Alto Frio July 24-27. This summer our theme is “Code Breakers”. Pre-Teen Camp is for children who have completed 3rd through 5th grade. The cost is $200 (a $50 deposit and TBCK form reserves your spot). Jeremiah 33:3 is our theme verse for the week.
 
Children’s Day Camp is August 4th for children who have completed 1st through 3rd grade. The theme is “Created by God” and the cost is $25. The TBCK form and $25 is needed to register.
 
Parents, Pizza, and Snowballs returns with an ultimate game of Parents vs Kids snowball fight on July 13 at 5:30pm. Children who have completed PK – 5th grade will enjoy this awesome time with their family. Childcare will be provided for the younger children. They can enjoy the pizza time before going to the children’s area for their own fun time. Please let Paula know you’ll be attending (RSVP) so we can have plenty of pizza.

Music Notes – June 2023

 
Hello Church Family!
 
Let me first say a HUGE Thank You to the folks of Trinity Baptist for the way you have welcomed me and my family. As with any move, there are lots of emotions and lots of moving parts, but you have already shown us a great deal of love and support as we follow God’s plan. I want to also say what a privilege it is to serve this church as Minister of Worship, and I look forward to what God has in store for us all. My first few weeks here have been spent getting to know people and faces and finding out all the great things already going on here, and I am excited to see how I fit into that and see what I can offer as I join this great ministry team.
 
I want to thank the Minister of Worship search team for everything they did to make this process easy and clear for me and my family. I know there was no shortage of ministers who would be honored to be a part of this church and ministry team, and I am thankful that God brought us together in His perfect will and timing. There is no other way to explain why I am here now.
 
Please continue to pray for us as we move through this transition from Saginaw to Kerrville, selling our home, searching for a new home, getting kids settled into new schools, and all the other details that come with a move. We know God has brought us this far and we know He has already worked all of those things out, but we want a continued sense of peace and comfort to cover all of it.
 
Here’s to what we hope will be a long and loving relationship as we move forward.

Meet Trinity’s 2023 Summer Interns

We are thrilled to have two interns this summer: Ryia Neuman and Cailin Powell, who are both currently Trinity members! For this month, I asked Ryia to share a few words. Enjoy!  –Wes Henson
 
Hi! I’m Ryia Neuman. I am 9th generation from Kerrville, and Trinity has basically been my second home for about eleven years. Interning for Trinity has been something I’ve dreamed of doing for a couple of years now, and I am humbled and honored to be given the opportunity to serve as one of your summer interns this year!
 
I just graduated from high school and am filled with a strong sense and calling to ministry. Though the exact shape of this calling remains uncertain as of right now, I’m very interested to see what God will reveal over the next few months. I am looking forward to getting to work, as well as learn, alongside so many wonderful Jesus-loving people and getting to know my home church even better than I already do.
 
I am super excited to develop stronger and deeper relationships with the youth as well as the wonderful youth workers who have poured so much love and wisdom into my own life. It is an honor to walk alongside them. I am also looking forward to helping these students grow in their relationships with Christ. I am excited to watch the friendships among the students grow stronger during our time together at camp and throughout the summer. Above all, I am eager to watch and see how God works and uses this summer for His glory!

College and Young Professionals

 
Would you invest money in a retirement account if you didn’t know that money would grow and provide you with financial support in your golden years? Probably not! Spiritual investment is sometimes different than future financial planning. The result of some Kingdom investments will never be known this side of heaven.
 
Investments we make in young adults who are in college or testing the waters of the work force can seem risky. “They don’t give to the church!” “We can’t count on them being here.” These are just two observations (complaints, perhaps) about those in their 20 and 30-somethings.
 
Trinity’s College and Young Professionals’ ministry seeks to engage young adults in a vibrant discipleship life. Navigate is the Sunday night worship and fellowship arm of this ministry. We offer this ministry knowing that Trinity Baptist Kerrville may never reap the results that we are accustomed to from other church members. However, God has given us different evaluation standards. If we are willing to look at the big picture, we might see a 23-year-old woman today become an international missionary worship leader 10 years from now. We might notice a 27-year-old man today who will lead the greeter’s ministry in a new church plant in an unchurched area of Los Angeles.
 
Would you pray about investing in young men and women who need someone to walk beside them and say “You’ve got this!”? We need 3-4 people who would consistently join us Sunday nights, build relationships with young adults, and invest in the lives that cross over the Millennials and Gen Z.
 
Navigate meets Sunday evenings. Doors open at 6:30 pm, worship begins at 7 pm. Share this with the young people in your life, and consider sharing in their lives!
