Come and See Class

by Jay Stimson

In the first chapter of John’s gospel, Philip told Nathanael he had found the Messiah. To Nathanael’s skeptical reply, Philip said, “Come and see.”

It is in that same spirit that we extend an invitation for you to come and seek Jesus with us on Sunday mornings at 9:45 in Room 212. We are a new, co-ed class that welcomes all ages, and especially those new to Kerrville or Trinity Baptist.

We use the Explore the Bible curriculum from Lifeway and look at scripture through its ancient cultural context to not only understand how scripture was applied when it was written, but how it applies in everyday life. The words spoken by Christ still resonate today to seekers and His followers who are hungry to learn more about Him.

Teacher Jay Stimson and his wife Kandi moved to Kerrville from Castle Rock, Colorado in 2021, where they had been involved in SBC church planting. After settling in Kerrville, they found themselves at home in the fellowship at Trinity Baptist Church with like-minded Christ followers.

Trinity Baptist has many wonderful teachers and Bible Study classes from which to choose. We encourage you to find a class where you can pray for one another, grow in your faith, enjoy fellowship with other believers, and find the Messiah through the study of God’s Word. If you are wondering if this class is right for you, “Come and See!”

Stitchers for Jesus – June 2023

by Cheryll Overla

The stitching ladies are a very special group.  I can’t call them sewers anymore because in 2022 we added a new division to our group, the knitters and crocheters and now they are called “Stitchers & More”.  Besides making dresses, shorts sets, walker tote bags and quilted blankets, we now are making afghans and newborn baby hats (for a baby hospital in Guatemala). We have monthly meetings in which we bring in the items that have been handmade and sometimes our tables look like a children’s specialty store!  It is amazing to see how the Lord has blessed us with talented people who use their time and effort to serve Him by loving and caring about children in need around the world. We all love to work with our hands and we love fabrics and yarns. Isn’t it just like God to give us a love for these things and a ministry to serve Him and meet some dire and very basic needs?

In addition to the clothing, we also make the shoe bags that are used for First Blessing every year. It is already time to start getting fabric sorted and cut so the ladies can work on this year’s bags.  Also, one of our ladies is currently cutting out head dresses for the children to wear in VBS this year. They will be Israelites in several different tribes. How very exciting!

Here is what we were able to send out in 2022:  653 dresses, 54 shorts sets, 69 quilted flannel blankets, 119 afghans, 72 baby hats and 82 walker tote bags.  We are hoping to do that much or more by the end of this year, Lord willing. In August, we will have an old-fashioned sewing bee and will also work on some special projects.

There are people that greatly bless and help us keep our ministry going.  We receive monetary donations and donations of fabrics, yarn and sewing notions.  We could not accomplish as much without this help and we are thankful to each and every one. September is our 8-year anniversary and 2 ladies are still members that have been since the beginning: Sue Stewart and Rita McFaddin.

We are always happy to welcome new stitchers to the group. Does this sound like something you can do and may want to be a part of? Come check us out!

Women’s Bible Study – May 2023

by Chana Johnson

What a great year we are having in our Wednesday morning and Thursday evening Bible study classes! We continue growing in our numbers as we study God’s word together. Not only do we have our TBCK women in our study, but as we reach out beyond our church to our community, more and more ladies are coming to hear the message of the Gospel.

WBS has been studying the book of Acts, from the Joy of Living Bible Studies. Debbie Williams, our teaching leader, blesses us each week as she expounds on the message God has for us in each chapter of Acts. Debbie’s teaching videos are available on the TBCK website and You Tube channel.

Upcoming News:
  • WBS will use Debbie Williams’ study of 2 Peter for the 4 weeks of July; Wednesday mornings at 10 AM and Thursday evenings at 6:30 PM.
  • In the fall, our ladies will study John, from the Joy of Living Bible Studies. Debbie Williams has committed to be our teaching leader through April, 2024.
  • The first part of John will be September 13 – November 21. We will finish the study of John in the spring of 2024, January 17 – March 27.
  • We are planning a 4-week study in April 2024 using one of Debbie Williams’ studies: Jude or selected Psalms.
  • Ask any lady in our WBS weekly study, and you will hear “we are blessed!”.

Women’s Ministry – April 2023

by Melinda Cox

“Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfector of our faith. For the joy set before Him He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1b-2

Women’s Ministry at Trinity is off to a great start in 2023. Our annual kick-off event was held February 5 in the Family Life Center. This year’s themed event was a High Tea complete with many different types of teas, finger sandwiches, cookies, and other sweet treats. Dr. Katie McCoy, Director of Women’s Ministry at the Center for Church Health Texas Baptists, was our keynote speaker. She framed her talk around our verse for the year found in Hebrews 12:1b-2 and wove the theme of perseverance into the lives of three Old and New Testament women: Hannah, Abigail, and Elizabeth.

Women’s Bible Study, under the leadership of Pat Hanna, is currently studying the Book of Acts. The July study will be 2 Peter, which was written by Debbie Williams.

Other upcoming events are a Lunch at The Cheesecake Factory and Shopping at La Cantera on April 22, a silk scarf craft on June 24 and a Back to School Prayer Breakfast in August.

Ladies, please join us as we study, pray, and fellowship together.
