Pilgrims of Faith Class

by Truman Martin
For the last 40 years, a group of Christian brothers and sisters have been meeting in room 121 next to the Family Life Center to study God’s word. Before covid, we averaged about 40 in attendance. Post covid our attendance has been in the upper 20’s. We use Masterwork curriculum by Lifeway, head-quartered in Brentwood, TN. Each book is written by biblical scholars from all over the world. The writers vary in age and denomination. Recently, we studied a book written by a man who lived back in 1400 BC. Most of them, however, are much younger!

Leaders of our class include a class director, teacher and secretary. The teacher encourages participation of the members and visitors present. Several of the members respond to questions in our book or questions posed by the teaching leader. So, while the discussion outline is based on the content found in our book, every study is rooted in the scriptures from God’s word.

We have 2 or 3 socials a year usually planned by the social committee and are held off campus at a restaurant. Like most Baptist groups, parties almost always include food.

Most of our members are around age 70 but some are in their 80’s. Our class is organized into care groups which enables us to stay in touch with each other’s praises and problems. Our director sends out a prayer list every week which enables us to pray for specific needs of members and their families and friends. The ladies meet once a month at a local nursing home to sing, give a devotional and pray for specific needs. The men meet at a restaurant the second Wednesday each month for prayer and fellowship.

We are very open to new members and encourage you to join us as we seek to praise and honor God.
