LIFE@TRINITY

Life at Trinity is given order through three words: Worship, Connect, and Serve. God has gifted each of us differently and equipped us with different passions and preferences. With the choices at Trinity we ask that you seek to Worship with the church, Connect with a small group, and Serve in a way God has gifted you once a week. To help make that simpler we place the things we do under the word that best fits that group or activity. Start by choosing one thing from each area.

Women’s Ministry

Trinity Life Newsletter
by Melinda Cox

The Women’s Ministry started 2025 with a three-day Women’s Conference hosted in the Trinity Family Life Center. What a wonderful conference it was! Our guest speaker was Dr. Katie Fruge’ with Texas Baptists. The ladies enjoyed not only a wonderful speaker but great Christian music, delicious food and Christian comradery throughout the weekend.

On April 26, ladies will have a wonderful opportunity to paint a cross on a canvas. Our visiting artist will be Elaine Capers, president of the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center. On June 7 there will be another opportunity to exercise your artistic talent by making a journal. Trish Wilson from Trinity will be the instructor for this course.

This Spring, Women’s Ministry will take up a diaper collection for the Pregnancy Resource Center. On November 8, plan on taking the church bus with us to Market Day in Boerne and having lunch (Dutch treat) at Peggy’s on the Green. Peggy’s on the Green will not disappoint! The lovely restaurant was built during the 19th century and has a beautiful wraparound porch. The atmosphere is casual, but not the experience. Farms in the surrounding locales of the Hill Country provide much of the food. Most Women’s Ministry events allow registration online; due to the size of our private room you must sign up in advance. Also, the quaint shops in Boerne are a delight for a wonderful shopping experience.

Women’s Ministry is a great place to “plug in” all year long at Trinity. Stay tuned for the information shared in Bible Study rooms, announcement guide, and the media presentations on Wednesday nights as well as Sunday mornings. We look forward to fellowshipping with you.

Horizon Youth Camp 2025

Trinity Life Newsletter
by Lauren Tripp

The countdown to Horizon Youth Camp is on! From July 7-11, our students who have completed 6th-12th grade will have the opportunity to step away from their everyday lives and dive deeper into their faith. Here’s a glimpse of what students can expect:

Growing Your Relationship with God—The most exciting aspect of camp is the opportunity to grow closer to God away from the distractions of everyday life. Collective worship will include large group sessions, coming together to praise God with music, prayer and powerful messages. We’ll meet in small groups for Bible study, allowing more intimate times to dig into Scripture and learn from peers and leaders.

Fun and Recreation—Whether you love sports, team games, or just hanging out, camp has something for everyone. There will be intramural recreation activities to get your competitive spirit going, as well as free time to relax, unwind and just enjoy the beautiful setting of Lake Brownwood Christian Retreat, our new venue.

Fellowship with Others—Students have the chance to strengthen their relationships with students in our youth ministry from different schools, backgrounds and life experiences–coming together to build lasting friendships. Camp also brings together students from other churches, giving students the chance to fellowship with kids from different places and
create lasting connections and relationships.

As we prepare for camp, please pray that students’ hearts will be open to God’s work in their lives. Pray that leaders will have wisdom and energy to guide students spiritually. Pray that Horizon Youth Camp will be a place where students encounter God in a powerful way, and that we leave camp with a renewed sense of purpose and a stronger connection to our Creator.

Kid’s Camp 2025

Trinity Life Newsletter
by Selena Cooley

Kids’ Camp is something many of our kids love because it combines fun, learning and community in a unique way.  I love the safe and nurturing environment. Knowing we are in an environment where values are important and personal growth is encouraged, we often experience a deeper connection with our faith at camp.  Through Bible lessons, worship and prayer, we learn more about God and how to live out our beliefs in a supportive environment. Kids’ Camp is the beginning of our journey to find or enhance our faith.  Camp is a beloved tradition that brings back great memories year after year.

Kids’ Camp offers a variety of fun activities like arts and crafts, swimming, games, and hikes.  These activities are exciting and allows kids to build confidence and teamwork skills.  Kids’ camp lets all of us escape the distractions of our everyday routines and allows us to focus on building on our faith, friendships and personal growth. Whether it’s learning a new skill, overcoming challenges or stepping out of our comfort zone, camps help kids build self-confidence. In short, kids’ camp offers a blend of fun, friendship, faith and personnel development, making it a special experience that many people treasure.

Texans on Mission

Trinity Life Newsletter
by Don Nelson

Texans on Mission is headquartered in Dallas and mobilizes Christian volunteers to impact the world by sharing God’s love and training the next generation, We do this by sending out an unending stream of volunteers to deliver help, hope and healing in the name of Christ to hurting people in Texas, across the United States and around the world.

There are many facets of TXM, including disaster relief, water impact, builders, discipleship as well as Royal Ambassadors.

Most of our local involvement is with disaster relief to provide practical help during tragedies by serving hot, nutritious meals and providing access to shower and laundry services as well as our local chainsaw team that removes debris as well as fallen and damaged trees.

Other teams clean out and repair homes damaged by floods and fire. We have chaplains that work with the teams to pray with and encourage survivors, offering hope for better days after the storms.

Some of our local volunteers have traveled as far as Israel this past year to be trained in kosher cooking as well as being deployed over seven times following strong winds, tornados and hurricanes within Texas and Oklahoma.

Our chainsaw team is made up of volunteers from not only Trinity, but from Comfort, Pipe Creek, and Camp Wood. We work side-by-side with other teams following disasters to show the love of Christ.

Trinity Baptist Church and Hill Country Baptist Association has helped our organization not only financially, but also through prayer and manpower. We also perform some local work to assist churches and great needs. There is always room for more volunteers. If you would like more information on how to get involved, visit the TXM.org website.

The History of the Victor

Spring is upon us, which means it is Victor season at Trinity. This will be my second year directing The Victor and I am very much looking forward to it. The Victor, in case you are not familiar with it, is a musical drama presented annually on Palm Sunday weekend by the worship ministry at Trinity.

It is a powerful and meaningful illustration of the sacrifice Jesus Christ made in order to bring hope to the world through Him, our Savior, God’s Son.

Pastor John Wheat had a desire to do something special around Easter and approached Larry Danks, the minister of worship at the time. They invited a newcomer to Kerrville and to Trinity, Suzanne Harston, to join them in this endeavor. Suzanne has a degree in directing, a passion for Christ, and a servant heart. She has been a part of this project since the beginning; read her article at tbck.org where she tells the story of how it all got started.

It is a truly special event. I want to personally invite you to come experience The Victor with us this year, especially if you have never seen it. If you have been before, please invite someone new to come and experience it with you. We humbly present this as a gift to our community.

Thank you for the privilege of being part of what God is doing at Trinity Baptist Church!

For the Journey – March 2025

God is at work in Trinity Baptist Church. There are good things going on and God is responsible for all of them. Several things will be added to our history this month. I hope you have marked March 23 as a special day on your calendars. On that day we will vote as a church on the approval of seven church members who have been nominated and recommended by our Deacon Selection Task Force. I hope you will take the time to read about those whom you may not know. There will be an information sheet with the names of each nominated, with a brief bio and picture, in our announcement guide and in the office.

I want to express thanks to our New Deacon Selection Task Force as they have been working for over a year to bring us to this place. They have done an outstanding job with the assignment given to them by our church. Thanks goes to David Sprouse for serving as chair of this task force and also to Diane Donaldson, Pennie Olivo, Dan Petty and Vern Stahl for their faithful research and commitment to the LORD and Trinity Baptist Church. Church members nominated are: Chuck Coulter (9:45), Jordan Marcum (9:45), Tabor McMillan (9:45), Philip Meadow (11:00), Vern Stahl (9:45), Jay Stimson (8:30), and James Tripp (9:45). The service they attend is listed in parenthesis.

Also, on March 23, we will be celebrating Trinity’s 75th Anniversary. We will have a special time on Sunday afternoon with a Banquet and special time with the “Minister of Encouragement,” Dennis Swanberg. The doors will open to the Family Life Center at 4:15 with Dinner beginning at 4:30 and our celebration in the Worship Center at 6:00 pm. Tickets are free but necessary to be certain we have the right amount of food. This will be a great time for Trinity to sit together and both celebrate and worship through God’s faithfulness and continued assignment together.

We will also use our anniversary to consider a corporate anniversary gift to Trinity Baptist Church. You should have already received a letter from me regarding our plans. God blessed us with timing and faithful sacrifice during COVID to give us space for future ministry. That space is being used in a great way to encourage as well as grow new disciples at Trinity. We will announce more of our intentions on March 23 and begin to receive our financial blessings from March 30 through May 25. To God be the glory, we are truly Blessed to Bless.

We will also recognize Wes Henson for his 6th anniversary as our Student Minister this month. We are grateful for Wes and Mica, Anna and Charis and all they bring to our staff and church. Thank you, Wes, for six years of anointed leadership and ministry.

These are exciting days at Trinity Baptist Church and I am so fortunate and blessed to be present, as you are, for God’s opportunities in our Faith Family, community and world.

In Christ,

Student Ministry – March 2025

by Wes Henson

Can you think of some of the “mountaintop experiences” in your spiritual life? These are times where you experience God in a new or fresh way. Maybe camp was a big one for you growing up. Maybe it was a retreat, or a revival. One of mine, strangely enough, was a puppet show when I was in 6th grade. Okay, that’s really strange. But it’s true.

For many of our students, Disciple Now was a mountaintop experience. God spoke to them and they left the weekend feeling closer to God than when they started. But we all know life happens. And we are now a few weeks removed from the weekend.

Will you pray for our students as they explore what it looks like to live as disciples of Christ? God is doing some amazing things through our students and the adults who serve them.

Finally, I want to close today by saying thank you to everyone who helped with Disciple Now in February. Whether you hosted, co-hosted, transported, cooked, served, prayed, or sponsored, thank you for all you do. Trinity is a wonderful and giving church. Thank you is not enough.

Easter Story Escape Room

by Bianca Blackstock

Spring is on the horizon and I’m ready for the sun’s warmth, blossoming of wildflowers and the sound of melodious birdsong. How astounding that during this beautiful, earthly season of renewal, we are also reminded of the renewal we have in God through the celebration of Easter.

The Children’s Ministry would like to be a part of your family’s reflection on the Easter story of Jesus. We invite families to join us for “The Easter Story Family Escape Room” on Tuesday, April 15, from 5:30-6:30. Parents and their children will solve puzzles and find clues to help them escape each room that tells a part of Jesus’ story. Each family will receive a kit with take home crafts and guide to the Easter story. Pizza will be provided, and families are encouraged to RSVP.

Missions Moment

by Mike Mullens

Did you know that over the years many members of Trinity Baptist Church have obeyed Jesus’ call to “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things I have commanded.” (Mt. 28: 18-20). In recent years TBC has sent-short term mission teams to the Dominican Republic, Kenya, Mexico and Thailand to name just a few. Those who have gone have discovered that mission work is a powerful experience in doing God’s will. This is regardless of whether they’ve gone on a short-term mission trip or become a career missionary.

Missions not only impacts others, but also creates personal transformations in those who go. Some examples of how many have been blessed by their participation in a short-term mission trip is best explained by their personal testimonies about how God has changed them because of their willingness to become a messenger of His good will. Some specific testimonials are included in the TBC 2023 Mission Trip Memories booklet located on the wall bookshelf just outside of the church offices.

The goals of your 2025 Trinity Missionary Ministry team are:
1) to help raise funds for scholarships as well as encourage and inform TBC members who wish to go on short term missions’ trips. Information about guidelines for receiving financial aid can be found at TBCK.ORG/missions,
2) to provide limited financial assistance to approved long term career missionaries.

We request your financial help. One way you can help is by doing the following: fill in the line on your weekly tithe envelope captioned My Offering to, by writing in the phrase “Short Term Missions” and place the $ amount you want to give on that line.

The Trinity Missions Ministry is here to help you get involved. How about joining one of TBC’s mission outreach efforts in 2025. If you can’t personally “go” then why not send others by being part of our fundraising efforts in 2025.

Women of the Word Class

by Darlene Graham

Sometime in the 1970s, the late Helen Puccini established the Women of the Word (WOW) Bible class along with co-leader Mary Kalbfleisch. Both ladies were literally shepherds of the flock. They not only presented inspirational Bible lessons, they also provided emotional and spiritual help to members of the class. Even after all these years, that same spirit permeates the atmosphere of our group.

Class member Charlene Hite states, “I moved to Kerrville a year ago and tried out Trinity and the WOW class. The women in the class were great and made me feel right at home. Along with a lot of loving fellowship, I have learned so much from the Bible studies.”

At present, the WOW class, led by Becky Doyal, still reflects the theme set in motion by Helen and Mary. For our Bible lessons, we will be using Lifeway’s Explore the Bible quarterlies starting March 2nd.

Before each Sunday’s Bible lesson, Becky takes time for the class to share prayer needs, followed by a time of prayer together. She provides a list of the prayer needs later in an email to class members. Our class is divided into six care groups of five to six ladies, each with a group leader who regularly checks on the needs of each member. In this way, we are able to make sure everyone is cared for. Birthdays are recognized with gift bags filled with cards and small gifts. We also sponsor a deserving graduating senior with monthly cards of encouragement and tokens of our love.

To encourage bonding and strengthening of friendships, we gather off-campus three times a year for fun, food and fellowship. What good times we have at these get-togethers!

As one of our newer members, Saundra Neely, commented, “One thing that really drew me into this fellowship was the idea of ‘enter to worship, leave to serve.’ There’s a place for everybody here.”

How true it is!

Pilgrims of Faith Class

by Truman Martin
For the last 40 years, a group of Christian brothers and sisters have been meeting in room 121 next to the Family Life Center to study God’s word. Before covid, we averaged about 40 in attendance. Post covid our attendance has been in the upper 20’s. We use Masterwork curriculum by Lifeway, head-quartered in Brentwood, TN. Each book is written by biblical scholars from all over the world. The writers vary in age and denomination. Recently, we studied a book written by a man who lived back in 1400 BC. Most of them, however, are much younger!

Leaders of our class include a class director, teacher and secretary. The teacher encourages participation of the members and visitors present. Several of the members respond to questions in our book or questions posed by the teaching leader. So, while the discussion outline is based on the content found in our book, every study is rooted in the scriptures from God’s word.

We have 2 or 3 socials a year usually planned by the social committee and are held off campus at a restaurant. Like most Baptist groups, parties almost always include food.

Most of our members are around age 70 but some are in their 80’s. Our class is organized into care groups which enables us to stay in touch with each other’s praises and problems. Our director sends out a prayer list every week which enables us to pray for specific needs of members and their families and friends. The ladies meet once a month at a local nursing home to sing, give a devotional and pray for specific needs. The men meet at a restaurant the second Wednesday each month for prayer and fellowship.

We are very open to new members and encourage you to join us as we seek to praise and honor God.

Kerrville West Home Group – March 2025

by Julia Whitehead

Kerrville West small group meets every other week to share life, deepen their faith, and grow in community. This off-campus group strives to be more than just a bible study. Its mission is to create time and space for a community of believers to walk closely together in their faith.

We begin with a potluck meal and fellowship. Afterwards, we settle into a time of discussion. We explore God’s Word together and allow space for reflection and application.  Whether studying a book of the Bible, a sermon series, or tackling a faith-based topic, our group prioritizes this time as a way to connect deeper.

Every member is committed to showing up. In times of stress and chaos, we show up and seek peace. In times of rest and leisure, we show up to celebrate and enjoy life together. We strive to create an environment that is intimate and relaxed. Meeting in a home fosters a sense of closeness and allows for vulnerability and authenticity. Prayer requests are shared, encouragement is given, and friendships are strengthened.

We serve one another and support each other in our respective ministries. We serve the church and community through various service projects.  Each month we organize a fellowship meeting to simply “hang out”.  We find each other outside of our scheduled meeting times for a random pickup game or game night.  We support each other in every facet of life – kids’ sporting events, birthdays, big milestones, etc.  We rally together when life feels too heavy to bear alone.  This all adds up to a full life filled with fellowship between friends who feel like family.  Our children experience what life can look like when you surround yourself with believers whose spiritual gifts are different from your own.  They are witnessing the Spirit working through many parts to create a “whole”.

Our group has been active for 8 years now!  In the midst of chaos and conflicting schedules, God uses our time together to restore and encourage. We believe that small groups are an integral part of participating in the Christian walk.  We encourage anyone interested in being part of one to step out in faith and dive right in!
